Soziale Bildung e.V., also known as “SoBi“ or “Social Education“ in English, has its base in Rostock. We are active in the areas of youth and adult political education, open and mobile social work for children and youngsters, school social work, as well as research and evaluation.

Our team consists of around 30 full-time employees (including trainees, BfD, FSJ/FÖJ), committed volunteers and trained representatives.

The focus of our work in the field of extracurricular political youth and adult education covers the topics of migration and diversity, globalisation, development policy, policy of remembrance, right-wing extremism and strengthening democracy.

SoBi operates in various forms thoughout Mecklenburg Vorpommern including: project days, year-round project courses, workshops, further education and training, international youth meetings, exhibitions and cultural events, such as readings, film evenings and discussions on current topics.

Since the start of the model project “Education to Strengthen Democracy in Rural Areas” in 2007, SoBi has been involved in research and evaluation, as well as practical educational work. In addition to the evaluation of its own projects, the association also carries out analysis for those involved in child and youth work and political education work.

SoBi, with the Open Child and Youth Work (OKJA), has been active in the districts of Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt (KTV), Stadtmitte and Brinckmansdorf in Rostock since 2008. The three-member core team offers open space and school holiday offers, as well as counselling. The team is supported by school social work at eight schools in these districts and also by street work in a part of the community affected by various disadvantages.

One of the central aims of the association is to support self-organization approaches and it sees itself as an enabling structure with a participative character. This is reflected in our mission statement and our understanding of education.

We are looking forward to your feedback and we wish you a lot of fun with the website!
